Why We Exist
Young people across the UK are facing a rapidly growing mental health crisis.
Today, 1 in 5 young people aged 8–25 are experiencing a probable mental health disorder, and in Kent and Medway alone an estimated 44,700 young people aged 16–24 are living with a mental health condition.
The need for early support has never been greater!
Mental health conditions among 17–19-year-olds have more than doubled in recent years, rising from 10% in 2017 to over 23% in 2023. At the same time, self-harm rates among young people are increasing, particularly in areas such as Medway and Swale.
Yet despite this growing demand, many young people still struggle to access the help and support they need. Long waiting times, fragmented services and limited youth-focused provision mean thousands of young people fall through the gaps, often only receiving support once they reach crisis point.
The evidence is clear: 50% of mental health conditions begin before the age of 14, and 75% by the mid-twenties, highlighting the urgent need for accessible early intervention and community-based support.
NexYouth exists to close this gap!
We provide early intervention, youth-led support and safe spaces for young people aged 11–25 to access mental health support, build resilience and influence the services that affect their lives. Because every young person deserves the chance to thrive — not just survive.
