Baton of Hope Sheppey 2025
On 21 September 2025, the Isle of Sheppey came together for a powerful and deeply moving day as the Baton of Hope made its way across the island, uniting individuals, organisations and communities in a shared commitment to suicide prevention, remembrance and hope.
The event was proudly organised in partnership with our friends at Baton of Hope, Swale Borough Council, Sheppey Matters, Kent Community Foundation and the Kent and Medway Health and Care Partnership. Together, we created a space where conversations could happen openly, stigma could be challenged and support could be made visible.
Throughout the day, the Baton was carried by individuals and organisations from across Sheppey, many of whom have been personally affected by suicide, or who work tirelessly to support people experiencing mental health challenges. Each step taken represented not just loss, but resilience, compassion and a collective determination to ensure no one feels alone.
The Baton of Hope is more than a symbol; it is a call to action! Seeing it passed hand to hand across the island was a powerful reminder of the importance of connection and community-led support.
A Community United
More than 300 people attended the event, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day. A charity village hosted a wide range of community services, all dedicated to promoting their work, raising awareness and offering information and support to those who needed it.
These organisations play a vital role in our local support network, and their presence reinforced a clear message: help is available and conversations about mental health and suicide prevention matter.
Inspiring Voices and Shared Commitment
We were honoured to hear from a number of inspiring keynote speakers, including the Mayor of Swale, Men-Talk Founder Jason, the High Sheriff of Kent and Mike, co-founder of Baton of Hope. Each speaker shared thoughtful reflections on the importance of community, compassion and continued action in tackling suicide and supporting mental wellbeing.
Events like this are only possible through generosity, partnership and shared purpose. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to:
EKC for hosting the day’s events
Sheppey FM for providing fantastic entertainment and helping create a welcoming atmosphere
Dementia Café for an amazing spread of food and refreshments
All volunteers, baton bearers, organisations and attendees who made the day so meaningful
Moving Forward Together
The Sheppey Baton of Hope event was a powerful reminder that hope grows when communities come together. By continuing to talk openly, support one another and champion local services, we can help save lives and build a future where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
If you or someone you know needs support, please remember that help is available and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness!
